The fun, do-everything GS continues to receive rave reviews
in the press. Strong sales have kept this model in short
supply from the moment it was introduced. These tough and
versatile machines were used by BMW as the basis for overall
wins in the 1999 Granada-Dakar and the 2000 Paris-Dakar-Cairo
desert/road rallies.
Here are just some of the highlights of the F650GS:
A new look: High-mounted fender, throaty dual
mufflers, and a distinct family resemblance to the R1150GS and
other recent BMW motorcycles.
New ergonomics: A lower standard seat height and optional
lowered suspension or taller seat to easily fit all riders.
New refinement: The F650GS now features electronic engine
management with no-choke starting.
New safety: For the first time on a
light, single-cylinder machine,
antilock brakes are available. This very important safety
feature is now possible due to the development of a new
compact and lightweight (4.4 lbs) modular system. All F650s
used on Beach tours have the ABS option installed.
This bike is great-looking, versatile, has a bullet-proof
history, and is fun to ride on all kinds of roads and for
novices and experts.
