Italy is a feast for the senses – the scrumptious food, the
deep red wine, the Renaissance culture, the outgoing and
carefree approach to each and every day, the aura of antiquity
and adventure – you can indulge in them all!
Motorcyclists have an edge over most tourists traversing
Italy. No peering out the back of the bus at breathtaking
landscapes. You are right there, in the fresh mountain air,
burning up the roads and the calories and living life as a
participant, not just an observer.
Italy rewards the visitor with priceless views at every turn
of the road, especially in the regions of Tuscany, Umbria and
Abruzzo.
The great roads of the Italian Idyll are often narrow and
twisty, with frequent elevation changes. Routes occasionally
dodge in and out of cities and towns, with traffic density
varying accordingly. In the larger cities such as Florence we
share the road with a multitude of other vehicles. In the
countryside, the only vehicle one may spot on a tiny road
meandering through a vineyard might be the vintner on his
tractor.
Many of the historic town centers in the tiny hill towns are
pedestrian only, requiring you to park on the edge of the
village and walk in. The relaxed pace of the Italian Idyll
allows plenty of time on a number of double overnights for you
to discover the magic tucked into the nooks and crannies of
these fascinating byways.
Anticipate a variety of roads from large and busy to tiny and
empty, for food and scenery to delight the senses and brand
the emotions, and for daily variety, and you are prepared for
the Italian Idyll! |
